The Minnesota Department of Natural Resources is looking for volunteers to count loons on lakes in Cook and Lake county. 

The one-day count by volunteers is part of the Minnesota Loon Monitoring Survey, now in its 15th year.  Counters are assigned to a pre-selected lake to tally the number of loons they see on one morning between July 3 and July 13.

Volunteers are encouraged to participate in the program for multiple years. The time commitment is two to four hours per lake. 

Monitors are needed for Caribou, Finger, Frear, North Wigwam, and Star Lakes in Cook County and Alger, Artlip, Besho, Bone, Dam Five, Divide, East 38-20, Homestead, Lost, Mound, Organ, Sister, and South Wigwam Lakes in Lake County.
