Shirley Peruniak, a park naturalist known as “the heart and soul” of Quetico Provincial Park, is set to be named to the Order of Ontario, the most prestigious honor awarded by the province.

The award, which honors current or former Ontario residents for conspicuous achievements in any field, will be conferred upon Peruniak and 28 others on Thursday by the province’s Lieutenant Governor, David Onley.

Peruniak, the author of An Illustrated History of Quetico Provincial Park, is being recognized for “35 years of conservation and promotion of one of Ontario’s world-renowned wilderness destinations,” according to a CBC story published HERE.

Author Jon Nelson has a comprehensive profile of Peruniak on his web site, HERE.
